I have a hard-drive full of good DVD's and classic movies I want to give my girlfriend. She's Korean and her English is less than perfect, so it's much more enjoyable if she has subtitles with the films. I've searched out the mainstream subtitles websites but their Korean inventories are pretty lousy.
Does anybody know of a good site where I can find Korean subtitles? |

Yeap!
Go to http://cineast.co.kr/ At the top there are a bunch of menu options. Click on the 5th one 자료실. From the drop down menu, select the first option. 자막자료실. Then just type your movie name into the box. Make sure the movie title says한글 (Korean) above it. Often there are lots of choices, so try and find the titles that best fit your movie. Sometimes the Korean title is different to the Western title and it's better to search in Korean. To do this go to google.co.kr and click on search Korean sites only. Type in the title in English and the Korean title should come up in the search results, copy and paste into cineast search box. |

That's a useful site! How do you get the subtitles to appear on the flick, though?

There should be two boxes for browsing files. Select the movie in the first and the subtitle file in the second, check the "use a subtitle box" that is between and voile. |

if you download and use the klite codec pack, this includes both vobsub and ffdshow, which enable subtitles in media player

VLC is good, but if you are a Windows user I personally recommend GOM player. Ironically it's Korean, but without a doubt it's the most versatile player out there. Just go to http://www.gomlab.com/eng/ and subtitles and the like couldn't be easier. You can even speed up and slow down the subs if needs be.

That's a useful site! How do you get the subtitles to appear on the flick, though? Most subtitles use an extension called '*.srt' for whatever reason most subtitles in Korea use the '*.smi' format. The best players that support both formats are the aforementioned VLC and GOM. To get subs working in GOM make sure the subtitle file is in the same folder as the movie/avi file and just highlight both and click play and or should work out fine. With VLC you have to point the player to the subtitle folder. And if anyone out there is using Windows Media Player...Don't. |

Jetaudio player is also not bad. I'm not sure about how to do the subtitles, but it will play them. I had a file that Gom player couldn't play, VLC could play with poor quality for some reason, but Jetaudio player played with no problems and good quality. Just another option if the others don't work.

Agreed sometimes you get a file that certain players don't play. It's therefore recommended that you have several players on your computer. Thanks for the tip about jet will give it a go.
The best thing you can do though is to stop using the awful monstrosities that are Windows Media Player and Real Player. They are useless and system hogging. For a whole list of alternatives to these which include players recommended in this forum check here http://www.free-codecs.com/Software/Media_Players.htm If you ever get a foreign film that you need both English and Korean subs for KM player can play dual subtitles. |

Help please!
I downloaded a few Korean subtitle files for my movie. (The Shining 1980). When I open in GOM or VLC players, I can see the subtitles, but only as little squares, not as Hungul. its kind of strange, because I have used Korean and Japanese subtitles on my computer before. also, If i open the file on GOM player and select the "Subtitle Explorer" the korean text is in there just fine. only when playing the movie the little boxes come up . . . |

Hey i Figured it out!
so if anybody else has the same problem: just had to change the subtitle font in GOM player. just go into preferences, subtitles, then change the font to batang, or another Korean compatible font. |

I'm in need of finding a place where I can obtain a newer (2005 to 2009) american film but dubbed in korean....or at the very least, subtitled in korean. I'm talking about newer films... for instance.. soon the movie Hangover will come out on dvd, if it hasn't already but I need it in Korean... I don't care if it's a mail order rental service similar to Netflix or some Ma and Pop store somewhere or if it's a internet streaming site.... Can anyone help?... Why is this soooooo hard for me to find..hahah..i have no idea...anyways....thx for reading
I tried the link mentioned above (cineast) but I am not korean and translating the page didn't work either. I am trying to do this to provide some entertainment to a family that has lost their loved one.... and that loved one was the only english speaking member of the family sooooo... this is my quest....thanks This post has been edited by swingpar: Aug 19 2009, 09:58 PM |
