Getting away!

:

The best thing about living in the Seoul area is its access to mass transportation. I mean you can get anywhere without a car nearly 24 hours a day. This makes it easy for us to plan a fun weekend away… and that’s just what happened on a few weeks ago.

I had wanted to take a special trip into the Mountains for a long time, and had been waiting for the fall leaves to turn. So Jo and I jumped on the last bus out from the Express Bu Terminal (11:30pm) on a Friday night and rode into the Sokcho Express Bus Terminal.

I had wanted to take a special trip into the Mountains for a long time, and had been waiting for the fall leaves to turn. So Jo and I jumped on the last bus out from the Express Bu Terminal (11:30pm) on a Friday night and rode into the Sokcho Express Bus Terminal.

Buses run to Sokcho from several terminals around Seoul, but because of my late teaching time, the only one we could make was out of the XBT. Since we would be riding an overnight bus, Jo and I ventured out to the terminal a week earlier to secure our tickets. I’m thankful we did, as the bus was packed!

Thankfully, a coworker had stayed in Sokcho before and recommended a great hostel, named The House. I’m glad she did, because it was an amazing find. It’s proprietor, Me. Yu knows Sokcho inside and out! Plus the accommodations were fantastic at only W30,000 per night for a private room. I was a little unsure how to get there, but thankfully I had the hostel’s information on hand. Rather than giving a detailed explanation to the driver, all I had to say was “The House Hostel,” and he knew exactly where to take us.

When going to Sokcho, stay at The House, you will not regret it! Plus it’s very close to the Intercity Bus Terminal and downtown.

Mr. Yoo also pointed us to a great restaurant. Check out the video below for some sights and sounds of our travels there. I’ll post our fall hike on Wednesday!
