Mating Ritual

The Female is sighted;
The Male moves in.
She shows all the signs:
                  right colors
                           plumage
                           timing
                           everything longed for
                           a great baby-maker!
The Male begins the Song and Dance
timeless Verses,
universal Movements,
feathers preened perfect,
he bears proud his ornaments
Around he dances strong and able,
and sings a song of power,
He sings:
               I can provide!
On go the circles,
His Song chatters on
Movements intuitive
Verses inborn
The Ancient Mystery unfolds
And he wins her
Her Dance receives him,
And she sings:
I’m drinking rum and coke
