She Cries At Night

She's a good student
quietly
concentrates on her studies
some day will leave this place
run far away
across the hills to the sea.
She doesn't know her sisters
waits for her mother to come
sometimes, cries in the night
lives in the country with her father
knows his secret
her mother's sister
his visits across the field
listens to her cries as
the door opens and closes
his panting and ranting like some work-horse
then silence
she knows the silence
waits again
a month before her mother's bus returns
then goes
again.
