A list of adjectives is unworthy
to describe the incident that occurred in America
on September 11th. The shock and grief felt
by those directly touched by the tragic and
horrific bombings in New York and Washington
is infinitely incommunicable. The innocent lives
of so many stockbrokers; the traders of happiness,
the suited bankers practiced in usury, the humanist
CEOs of humanitarian corporations, the secretaries,
the janitors, the mail clerks, the security
guards, the policemen, the firemen, the tourists,
the passer-bys, the students, etc., ad infinitum
destroyed within a twenty-or-so minute span.
Let’s not depreciate the HQ of the world’s
most powerful, outstanding, and righteous appendages
of Uncle Sam in our moment of silence for fallen
comrades and common members in humanity... The
mighty ministry of war, encircled in pentagramish
[sic] form, was rattled, but not broken. The
corporeal and intelligent might of America was
made to flee and cower. Woe, the pride of such
great and valorous men stung to the quick. Historians
may chronicle this as America’s darkest hour.
The Hollywood prophecies came
true in this phantasmagorical moment. The world
stood mouths agape watching CNN, provider of
other such awe-inspiring entertainments as the
Gulf War live, broadcast these surreal events.
Transfixed to Sonys people watched mesmerized,
via up-linked satellites, the complete destruction
of the WTC. In the heat of the moment, the professionalism
of journalism was lost in a harangue of expletives.
Holy Shit!
The aftermath of this carnage
will remain in the minds of the people long
after the dust settles. The question begging
to be asked now is: “What next?” The solution
proffered is “Operation Infinite Justice”.
More economic sanctions, more bombings, more
wars, more killing, more, more, more. More is
might as America converges on Afghanistan, the
little country that could.
The world is standing ready to provide economic
and logistical support. Already America has
deployed carriers, destroyers, bombers, jet
fighters, tanks, and military personnel.
Russia is ready to try once again.
Moscow pledges to “render all possible support
to the US” despite differences in several
issues including Chechnya. Temporary allies
ready to overlook differences in the face of
a common foe, even though one is in the process
of completely destroying a self-proclaimed independent
country. In 1979, the former Soviet Union, Cold
War enemies of the US, invaded Afghanistan to
protect socialism, only to withdraw a decade
later with major losses. It was a major blow
to Soviet superiority and pride. Amends will
now be paid in full.
The intricate web of coincidence
and fate sure does have a sense of humor. How
breathtaking to see its wonderful workings.
The people of Florida maybe have mistakenly
voted for the right president. Bush Junior,
surrounded by Bush Senior’s council, looks
to be the appropriate commander-in-chief. The
dialectics of Bush and his council have condemned
Osama bin Laden and his evil henchmen. The wise
and culturally mannered Taliban leadership,
or clerics, have denied any responsibility or
connection to the attacks, as has public enemy
number one. Yet war is looming on the horizon.
Exactly a decade later, Bush Junior mans the
war machine.
Only astute and sagacious men
can understand the intricate politics of war.
America supported Afghanistan in their fight
for freedom against the other world superpower.
Now America and the former Soviet Union are
partners. The Iran-Iraq war is another mysterious
matter to be left to the intelligentsia [sic].
America supported Iraq in the eighties against
the Muslims led by Ayatollah. A few years later
they decimated their partner, Saddam, in another
war. What about the Balkans, you ask? Yugoslavia’s
leader was America’s bosom buddy and then
suddenly not. Which is it? War and why nations
wage it is really stupefying, mind-boggling
mumbo-jumbo. Thousands of Tutsis in the Dark
Continent murdered during civil war. Where was
America and its organization of peace? Maybe
they were on vacation? Or maybe they were sleeping
or at a banquet? The noggin starts throbbing
if one delves too deeply in matters better left
to the moral and righteous leaders of the first
world.
The world has deemed this atrocity,
the only one of its kind, to be justifiable
cause for war. By its name, “Operation Infinite
Justice” seeks justice. However, without proof,
can America ignore Afghanistan and its people’s
plea of innocence? Even if bin Laden is found
guilty, is it just to ignore Afghan’s sovereignty?
There is not doubt that if there is war, it
will be protracted. But will this war be justifiable
to future generations? The world watches transfixed
as America plans a course of action. Two shadow
warriors preparing to do battle. There is terrorism
in the one corner, and American justice in the
other.
On another note, however tragic
the attacks on NYC and Washington were, they
could be viewed in light of revolution. The
stranglehold that America has on its world colony
economically and militarily cannot be ignored.
Although many innocent Americans died, the adjective
cannot be said of the nation itself. How much
innocent blood has been shed the world over
due to American foreign policy or indifference.
According to Oxford's Dictionary, terrorism:
is the use of violent action in order to achieve
political aims or to force a government to act.
America itself was a colony that underwent revolution.
Acts of terrorism were committed in the name
of American emancipation from British rule.
The media portrays the enemy as one that hides
in shadows, yet how else can it be? Who can
stand up directly to the military might of America?
And as imperial power, America must retaliate.
In this war, there is a wide chasm that separates
the two foes. One side fights on the platform
of status quo and self-interest, the other on
revolution and religion. The fires of the future
and its showdown can be elucidated as the “McWorld
versus Jihad”syndrome. Who will win and at
what cost?
An anecdote comes to mind of Alexander
the Great. When he was consolidating his throne
in Macedon, the Greeks rebelled, seeing a boy
on the throne. There was revolution in Thebes.
The demagogues urged the Greeks to join them
and free themselves from Macedonian domination.
After a march of two weeks, Alexander appeared
at the walls of Thebes. He demanded them to
send him the two leaders of the rebellion. The
Thebans denied his request, so Alexander killed
six thousand of them, demolished their city,
and sold all the surviving inhabitants as slaves.
